Texas Twist: Window Shopping

When you live in a suburban town you usually do most of your shopping in malls or in outside shopping outlets, such as the Southlake Town Square, which I would occasionally frequent for a change of pace.  In the majority of store windows in malls there might be a few mannequins advertising the clothes, or a sign advertising a sale, etc., you get the point.  Here is an average, mall store front:

During my first semester here in New York, I took a required "Introduction to Visual" course.  I had this fabulous teacher who did the visual displays for Cartier for 40 years, talk about an incredible career! He took us on a "field trip" once during class, just walking around the streets in Midtown Manhattan and taught us what we should be noticing while we are walking down the streets.  Let me tell you, I was completely oblivious to so many incredible things about the different buildings and store fronts, which I'd probably walked past at least 10-15 times.  So when I walk down the streets now, I take in everything that is going on at that moment, because everything in the city changes so much and there are so many details that you might miss the first time around. It's definitely a different way of shopping than back home, and I've enjoyed the window shopping aspect so much more here. So I've started taking pictures of my favorite windows and since they change so often it's really interesting to observe the style of the visual designer of a particular store.

So here are a few of my favorite store window displays that I've collected since I've been here.  Maybe it'll get ya'll to start noticing the window displays of the stores that you frequently shop at too...so enjoy!
